Our galvanized metal buckets are about 7 1/2 width and 14 inches tall but with handles are about 16 inches tall. These buckets were purchased from Michaels on sale at 80 percent off in October. $4 for each bucket.
The floral dry foam bricks measure about 2.5 inches deep, 3.4 inches wide, and 7.8 inches long. We tape ours together to save money rather than buy the more expensive round dry foam. Each foam brick costs $1.33. Two bricks is $2.66.
Each set of faux floral and green pine mix cost $3.47. The total for both bunches is $6.94 per bucket.
A roll of burlap ribbon in natural costs $5.97. Roll is 5.5 inches wide with 30 feet of burlap. Each bow costs $1.00 to make. Total cost of floral bucket is $10.60 without the cost of the bucket. And costs $14.60 with the floral bucket.
Total time to assemble both buckets – 1 hour for two floral buckets.
2. Make Cardboard Insert to Decorate French Floral Buckets
First, cut and tape a cardboard insert. The insert fits inside the bucket. The purpose of the insert is to support the floral dry foam and to elevate the floral design. We used a cardboard from a box we had on hand. Place the cardboard insert inside the bucket.
3. Cut the Floral Dry Foam
Second, cut the floral dry foam bricks to fit inside the buckets. We used a small leftover paper plate as a pattern. And measured the bucket opening which is 7 1/2 inches wide. We used two dry foam bricks instead of one round dry foam. A set of three brick size dry foam costs less than one round dry foam. So with a little extra effort and time, we can save money on the dry foam inserts.
Draw a circle on two brick size foams. Double check the size of the bucket opening. Our bucket opening is 7 1/2 inches wide. Cut the dry foam using a pair of scissors. Trim any excess foam from the two half circles. Since we are using 28 inch long faux birch logs, we cut out a notch on the side of the dry foam. This will allow the faux birch logs to slide right into the bucket. Next, tape the two half circles of dry foam together. Insert the dry foam into each bucket.
4. Separate the Faux Floral Mix
Third, separate the faux Magnolia and Green Pine Mix using the diagonal cutting pliers. Clip each stem from the main bunch so they can be used individually as a pic.
5. Insert the Faux Birch Logs in the Bucket Back Area
Fourth, insert the set of three faux birch logs into the back of the galvanized metal bucket. Due to the length of the birch logs, they will be placed directly into the bucket. The birch logs are inserted first.
6. Add the Separated Green Pine Pics
Fifth, beginning at the back of the bucket, add the larger or longer green pine pics.
7. Add the White Magnolia Bloom Pics
Sixth, in the front add a bunch of Magnolia leaves. Clip the stems of the white Magnolia blooms so that the stems are between 3 to 5 inches long. Insert the largest Magnolia bloom in the front with the smaller remaining three Magnolias around the largest bloom. The largest and widest Magnolia is inserted closest to the front and lower than the other Magnolias. Add the three remaining Magnolias around the largest Magnolia and slightly higher. Continue to add the remaining greenery. Filling in the area between the four Magnolias and the green pine mix. All these pics will fill in the green dry foam base.
8. Insert the Red Berries
Seventh, add the two red berry pics. One on the right side and the other on the left side of the bucket behind the Magnolias. We would like this to be a neutral colored decor. So the only bright color we added are the red berries which is part of the White Magnolia Mix.
9. Wrap the Floral Pics and Faux Birch Logs with Burlap Ribbon
Eighth, cut two 5 foot long pieces of natural burlap ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the pics and faux logs. Tie into a double knot in the front of the bucket allowing ends to flow out.
10. Add Twinkling Lights to the French Floral Buckets for Christmas
As an option, add small lights to the bucket greenery. This will be especially useful to create a low light effect or brighten a dark area.
Display this French floral bucket decor indoors in an entryway or on a console table.
Or use the buckets in a covered outdoor front or side door entryway.
