St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor
A simple St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor idea to help celebrate the day. We put together a little green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.
A farmhouse stand to add some festive green to your home. With St. Patrick’s Day rapidly approaching, we put together a farmhouse stand decorated in honor of Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick. A 5th century missionary, St. Patrick was known as the “Apostle of Ireland”.
St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor – stand
To create this farmhouse style decor, begin with selecting a tiered stand. If you don’t have a tiered stand, you can use a single tray. With a single tray, include items that can provide some additional height to your tray.
So, begin with a tiered stand of your choice or tray. The tiered stand used for this project was one that we have on hand. Use a stand such as this one which was used for Christmas and Valentine’s day projects. This stand is called the Edin Wood 2 tiered stand.
Since the Edin Wood stand has wire shelves, we added a layer of brown paper to each shelf. The purpose of the brown paper is to prevent any moss or filler from slipping through the wire. For this step, use any brown paper or paper bag to line the base. Line both the top and bottom shelves with paper.
Next, add a layer of Spanish moss over the brown paper. Floral moss, shredded or crinkled paper works well too. It is best to use supplies you have on hand. Especially if you are on a strict budget limit. Create a “bed” with the moss or paper. The bed helps to support the green items to be displayed on the shelf.
St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor – Lower Shelf
Beginning with the lower shelf, lay a container on its side. For this step, we used a green glass vase. The green glass vase was a flea market find a few years ago. We picked it up for maybe $3. It has come in quite handy over the years. Next, add plastic gold coins inside the container or vase. Then add a few coins outside the mouth of the container. The idea is to give the appearance of gold coins spilling out of the container. Drop a few foam shamrocks around the gold coins and on the Spanish moss.
Add an item like the Champagne color topped mushroom opposite the gold coins on the lower shelf. And a vine image. Both the mushroom and vine image were used as background fillers.
St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor – Top Shelf
On the top shelf, add the large, green top hat with gold buckle in the center. The top hat covers the knob handle of the farmhouse stand. Separate the green glitter tipped carnations and gold coins floral pick. There are 4 individual carnations and one pick with 2 gold coins. Cut the carnations and gold coin pics to fit inside the clear milk jar. Cut the gold coin floral pic so that it is taller than the carnations. Insert the carnations and gold coin pics inside the milk jar.
Place the carnation filled milk jar next to the green top hat. Add the LUCK message hat on the left side of the top hat. As support we added two white mugs behind the glitter hat. The final step – add the foam glitter shamrocks and gold coins. Lay foam shamrocks at the base of the hat and milk jar. Stand two foam gold coins on the side and top of the top hat.
This is our completed “green” St Patrick Day Farmhouse decor piece. The entire time to build this farmhouse stand took between 30 to 40 minutes. A quick and easy project that even your children can piece together. Although, I would also include any St. Patrick’s Day art work made by my kids to the stand. The art work gives the stand a more personalized look.
St Patrick Day Farmhouse Decor – within Budget
In all, the Dollar Store decor cost a whopping $6. The top hat, LUCK message hat, and carnation floral pic each cost $1. Plastic gold coins, foam glitter shamrocks and coin, and the milk jar each cost $1. Items on hand that we used were the farmhouse stand, green glass vase, and mugs. The goal was to create a festive farmhouse stand for St. Patrick’s Day celebration. And to stay within our strict budget. This was a quick, easy, and cheap decor piece.
We hope you enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day project.
