Special Exhibitions
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the August 1969 Woodstock Music Festival, the flower show pays tribute to the Aquarian experience. The three day music festival was held on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. Where a half million people witnessed “An Aquarian experience: 3 days of Peace and Music”. The 1960s era of Flower Power. The event simply known as “Woodstock” was the counterculture movement of the 1960s.
Upon entering the show floor you’ll see many displays and exhibits. The 2019 Interflora World Cup by FTD is under way. Many of the participants are busy completing their entries to the competition. In the background, you’ll hear many songs of the Woodstock era playing. Songs such as Light My Fire by the Doors. Happy Together by the Turtles. Never My Love by the Association. And With a Little Help From My Friends by the Beatles.
Our first stop was the recreation of a Woodstock campsite. A campsite that depicts what the festival goers might have camped at. The campsite is decorated with flowers and plants. The Woodstock campsite exhibit had a farm truck, tent, and campfire. All surrounded by loads of beautiful Summer flowers.
In this view, a guitar is seen leaning against some scaffolding. A partially covered British Marshall Amplifier doubles as a plant stand. The guitar is represents the iconic Woodstock poster. The 1969 poster with a white dove standing on the guitar’s neck. The poster promoted the festival – Woodstock, 3 Days of Peace and Music.
In the background are strings of patio lights over a makeshift outdoor campsite dining hall area. And a clothesline of tie dyed t-shirts and blue jeans.
The campsite dining area has strings of outdoor patio lights. Bales of hay are scattered around the dinner tables for seating. Glass vases of fresh flowers including sunflowers are at each dining table. Shawls partially cover the dinner tables. A quick and easy Woodstock decor. For an informal, laid back dining experience in a cow pasture! Well done!
On the other side of the makeshift dining area is a large Circle of Love display. The rustic Circle of Love is surrounded by a variety of Summer flower bouquets. And to the right, behind the circle a clothesline.
A Throwback to 1969 Thursday maybe? A blue Flower Power farm truck complete with a simple message. The brown rusty bumper has the message – All You Need is Love . . . In the background, a clothesline from the canvas tent to a tree. The clothesline is filled with tie dyed t-shirts and the ever classic blue jeans. On the ground below the clothesline is a bucket of yellow goldenrod. The canvas tent displays a Peace Sign made from vines.
A beautiful floral arrangement spills out from under the truck’s hood. In front of the truck are bright yellow sunflowers – a favorite Summer flower.
A side view of the blue Farm Truck with a painted Flower Power message. And fenders have floral designs with rainbows. In the truck bed, a soda dispenser rests on a bale of hay. Goldenrod filled soda dispenser along with a bucket of Sunflowers and other flowers fill the truck’s bed. A Things go Better with Coke dispenser is a classic!
A rainbow made of flowers appears over the Woodstock campsite.
Another view of the campsite shows directional signs for the Gentle Path High Way or Woodstock. Bell bottom blue jeans hang from the clothesline. To the right, is a classic coke cola vending machine. The vending machine holds a wooden crate with coke cola glass bottles.
To the lower left are pots of bright yellow Sunflowers, Yarrow, Shasta Daisies and more. Yellow pansies are planted at the base of the directional sign post.
