5 Spring Blooming Anemone
Plant Spring blooming Anemone for bright spring garden colors. There are several types of Anemones. Some are herbaceous perennials and others grow from bulb-like corms or tubers. In this post, we will discuss the Spring blooming Anemone that are tubers.
Blanda Spring Blooming Anemone
Blanda anemone are also known as Windflower and Grecian Windflower. They grow from Fall planted corms that bloom the following Spring. The Blanda variety is low growing and perfect as companion plants for other Spring blooming bulbs as well as perennials. Plant Blanda Anemone alongside bulbs such as tulips and daffodils. Or alongside perennials such as primroses, dicentra, and hellebores. These mounding plants with daisy-like flowers and finely textured foliage provide a much needed colorful Springtime display. A mass planting of anemones forms a stunning carpet of bright garden color.
Preparation for Planting Spring Blooming Anemone
Before planting the Anemone corms, soak them in lukewarm water to soften and add moisture to the corms. Soak between 4 to 6 hours to give the plants a kick start for the plant to emerge. Unlike daffodils, the Anemone corms can be planted in any direction. As the corm sprouts, the new growth will find its way to the surface.
Anemones prefer well draining soil conditions. Before planting, improve the soil conditions by adding compost, leaf mold, or other organic material. Mix added organic material with the ground soil.
Plant Blanda Anemones in the Fall as you normally plant tulips and daffodils. Dig the ground 2 inches deep and plant corms about 3 inches apart from the center of where the corm is planted. Then cover with soil and water.
